Wild Fire Evacuation

USPA NEWS - Please do not travel into the affected area unless you are evacuating or directed to do so. Keep roadways clear for emergency responders.
DNR, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, and VFDs are continuing to respond to the fire on Mooseland Rd in Halifax Regional Municipality. The fire has seen significant growth and is now estimated to be 300 hectares and is out of control. 2 DNR helicopters and 4 fixed-wing water bombers are on site. An additional two fixed-wing water bombers are on their way from Newfoundland to assist.
Throughout the afternoon, the fire continued to spread to the south and east, crossing Mooseland Road and establishing fire on the east side of the roadway. The fire has also crossed Jacket Lake and continues to spread. Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency crews are continuing to work alongside the Department of Natural Resources to contain the fire under challenging conditions.
As fire conditions changed, the firefighters planned exit route was burned over. Firefighters and DNR personnel established a safe refuge area and are now safely exiting the affected area. Air resources remain heavily engaged, including DNR helicopters and fixed-wing water bombers. Additional fixed-wing aircraft from New Brunswick have also joined the response to support suppression efforts. The most significant fire activity is currently estimated to be between approximately the 1400 to the 2400 block of Mooseland Road. Mooseland Road remains closed, and motorists are asked to avoid the area and follow any directions from emergency personnel.
Follow designated evacuation routes and the direction of local authorities. Do not delay evacuate immediately. Evacuees can register at evacuation centres located at Musquodoboit Rural High, 1198C Highway 224, Middle Musquodoboit and Marine Drive Acadamy, 479 Church Point Rd in Sheet Harbour.
